Novelty Wall Clocks
Looking for novelty wall clocks?
Back in the mid-1800's, a man by the name of Anson C. Phelps began a company called The Ansonia Clock Company.
This distinctive clock company became a subsidiary company in the year 1851.
The Ansonia Company was well known for making a quality product.
They were best known for their ornate novelty clocks.
These weren't wall clocks, but rather ornamental mantel and shelf clocks.
Here are some excellent novelty wall clocks.
However, they were manufactured from decorative imitation gold and featured deep thinkers, athletes, pouting cupids and angels, babies, and
languid ladies.
In the 1900's, Ansonia's line of novelty clocks brought in the largest revenue for the company.
Some of the earliest clocks were made in Britain and had brass dials.
Britain was the first country to introduce to the world the modern clock dials we see today.
During that time, these clocks were used not only for keeping track of the time, but for
decorative use as well.
Novelty wall clocks are very popular today and grace the walls of game rooms, offices, dens, living areas, kitchens, bedrooms
and basements.
They're made from wood, plastic, polyresin and metal and come in almost every shape, size and design.
Neon clocks are a great example of both a somewhat retro and yet modern look.
Classic cars, Disney characters, the Coca-Cola trademark, car manufacturers (Ford and Chevrolet), Elvis, Betty Boop, sports, animals, beer
logos, road signs, and billiard-themed types are just a few of the many choices available. Neon colors range from bright greens, blues, reds,
oranges, yellows and many others, to match or compliment any décor.
The avid card player in the family would enjoy the Ace of Spades novelty wall clock which is in the shape of a playing card.
The "Jack" and the "Queen" card symbol represent the numbers 11 and 12 on the clock face. A hanging pendulum, (for decorative purposes), is in
the shape of a diamond and has each card suit represented.
Other examples of great novelty wall clocks might be shaped ones such as a guitar, a lighthouse, a large watch and wristband, a rustic
metal cross, a sundial, a sunburst, a desert skull, or a lion. Consider adding a novelty clock to your home and anticipate the animated
conversation that is sure to ensue!
