Levi Hutchins of New Hampshire was the first man to invent a mechanical alarm clock, which was in 1787.

He built it to get himself out of bed at 4 a.m. to get to his job on time.

However, the first person to patent a mechanical alarm clock, which was in 1847, was a French inventor by the name of Antoine Redier.

In the spring of 1942, all manufacture of alarm clocks, along with several other consumer goods during World War II, ceased.

However, in 1944, alarm clocks were one of the first items to come off of the production lines.

An alarm clock is essentially used to awaken people from sleep so they'll begin their day on time.

However, the alarms are also used to remind us of other important things.

Traditional mechanical alarm clocks were fashioned with a bell on the top which would ring at the specified time.
